I can't record at all in Sound Forge 5: I get this error message:

An unknown error occured creating the pcm

Forge 4.5 works fine.

Wazzup?

This sounds like a sound card issue. Update the drivers for your card from the manufacturer's website and the problem should be fixed.

The following programs record properly with my current drivers: Vegas video 2.0d, Acid Pro 3.0, Sound Forge 4.5, Emagic Logic 3.6, Awave 7.0, Sound Recorder, etc...

I don't think it's a driver issue. I've discovered that after I attempt recording with SF 5.0b, and get the error message, the following files appear in Forge's temporary folder (nothing else having been done in the current session):

FLOCK000.TMP
FORGE000.TMP
FORGECUT.TMP

After shutting down the program, the following two remain:

FLOCK000.TMP
FORGE000.TMP

And on relaunch, SF asks me if I want to recover:

FORGE000.TMP

Don't know if the above is relevant...

Thanks,

S

For some reason, Sound Forge was set to create a file out of spec with the capabilities of the active sound card.

I found this when I got the same message after trying to create a new file.

This really should NOT be "An unknown error"... Or file creation should default to the closest match to the card drivers...
