I had assumed that the Sony PMD software which was included with the camcorder was saving everything in AVCHD. When I hooked up my hard drive to my Play Station, it didn’t see any AVCHD files on the hard drive, yet the PMD software brings them up just fine, so I know they’re there. And I know the Play Station will playback AVCHD files, because it plays them back from a Memory Stick just fine. Why not from the hard drive files? Can you use Vegas to save AVCHD files to a hard drive in AVCHD form? If not, what does it convert them to? Can I just download AVCHD files to my hard drive without editing them? And just leave them in AVCHD form? I just want to play them back on the big TV. The PlayStation “sees” AVCHD files, and will play them. I know because if I just stick a memory stick in, it will play everything on it. But not the stuff the Sony camcorder software saved to the hard drive. Otherwise, the only way I can archive is to buy a Blu-Ray burner, which is more money...

They are similar to Blu-ray format. You need a Blu-ray player to play them on your TV. Don't put them in a standard DVD player or you may not be able to eject them. It is not simply a matter of having AVCHD files on a DVD. I don't recall seeing a method of producing AVCHD discs using Sony software.

My guess as to the problem is that your hard drive is formatted as NTFS which won't fly with the PS3. Your drive must be formatted as FAT32
