I get a error during install of the demo version of Sound
Forge stating that the "The contents of this file cannot be
unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been
corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file; verify
its integrity, & try again". When I double click on the
downloaded exe to install, it gives the above error message
and the installation remains unsuccessfull. I have
repeatedly downlaoded a couple of times. I have Windows 98
SE. The same problem exists. Please help.

Try this:

Reboot your PC. When your PC reboots, press the CTRL key
and boot Windows into safe mode. Once you get into
Windows, go to Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Uninstall Sound Forge if it shows on the list. Then open
Windows Explorer and browse to your Windows folder. Go to
the Temp directory and delete everything there, including
any sub-folders. Reboot normally then retry installing.
This may help.

Good luck.

at what point does the error occur?
is there drive activity for a time before it gives the message? if so then a part of the file is corupt and cannot be unpacked by the installer program.
i have had large downloaded files screwed up by third party download helpers more than once.
try the file on another computer and if there's trouble there as well then the file is corupt
try just starting the download before you go to bed and hope for the best. it actualy works for me with those god awfull huge Vegas updates and i have just a 28.8 connection!
oh, and don't forget crappy phone lines. noise may not disconnet you but will corupt some of the data flow. if all else fails try geting it on another computer.
