When I record at the 16bit setting the meters show a -39 level. I have a AWE64 sound card. Its like the sound card is setat 8 bit. cvw |

Unless the sound card is 8-bit, then there is probably no way to set it to be 8-bit. Most likely, your levels are just not turned up high enough. Open the Windows volume control by double clicking the yellow speaker icon by your computer's clock. Once the play control window comes up, go to the Options menu and select "Properties". Select "Recording" under "Adjust Volume For" and where it says "Show the Following Volume Controls", make sure everything is selected. Now click "OK" and you will get a recording control window. Under each volume control is a box marked "Select". Make sure that the one under the desired source (microphone, line in, etc.) is selected and that the volume is turned up about three quarters of the way. If the music is too loud or quiet when you record it, you can come back to this window and adjust the volume as necessary. Ted |

Ted Thanks for the reply. All the level controls are up. When I start a new record session and set the bit depth to 8 bit the record meters show no noise level. If I set the bit depth to 16 bit I get a -35db reading on the meters which is all noise. With ether bit setting the signal level gets up to a -2.5db peak record level. The recorded audio sounds ok except for the noise floor. Any more ideas. CVW |
