Subject:volume envelope changes default level on VSTi

Been trying to sort this out for awhile. Whenever I insert a volume envelope onto a midi track recorded with a kontakt instrument the start level of the instrument lowers to -12db from the default level
of -6db. am i missing something here? much thanks in advance. cheers.

On the MIDI track in question, hide the automation controls.

Do you have a "trim" value for volume? If so, set it to "0".

The gain structure for all tracks is

static trim + envelope = overall gain.
