I regularly record a voice file that ends up playing back too fast! I have to reduce it to "about" 0.93 for it to sound right, but I need it to sync with a 2-hr file, so it must be perfect. How can I get it back to normal & how can I stop this happening at all? Message last edited on1/27/2010 9:54:02 AM byVoxAppeal. |

What do you need to know? I'm on SF Pro 10a with an M-Audio FW410 card, recording in 48/16 as I often do. All I've done is record, nothing else. I play it back & it sounds like Donald Duck on the verge of adolescence! The only way I can get it near normal is by sliding the "Rate" bar back to about 0.93. I wish I had more information myself. The most likely explanation for somethinlg like this is mismatched sampling rates between record and playback - specifically in this case I'd guess that you are recording the material using a sampling rate of 44.1kHz and are playing it back using a sampling rate of 48kHz. If this is what you are doing, the true speed reduction would need to be 0.91875 rather than 0.93. Mark |

Thanks Mark, I think that's the problem although it was definitely recorded in & played back in 48/16. I think it's due to the M-Audio because it was an interpretation of a wmv video in WMP that was playing back in 44.1, so the card must have defaulted to that. I found that simply playing a bit of the video again & stopping it, the SF playback "defaulted" back to the right playing rate. Something to remember I guess. |

If it's from a media file, why go to the trouble of playing it and re-recording it at all? Just open the .wmv file in Sound Forge. |

Hi guys, I am brand new to Sound Forge and having the same problem. Yesterday, I recorded a 48K file in mono, 16-bit, saved as AIFF, and had no problems. Today I recorded in 44,100, mono, 16 bit, and saved as raw and as wav before listening to playback and didn't touch the playback settings. Now however I've got a file playing at 1.5x the speed it's supposed to and I do NOT want to have rerecord it, so I need to salvage it/save it. I tried to repeat the steps described here but despite changing the sample rate at the bottom of the screen then going to select "process" and choosing to change the sample rate to 48K, nothing happened, the speed stayed the same. I've tried fiddling with Time Stretch and no combination cleans up the "chipmunk sound" and I am left with an unusable file that took me an hour to record (voiceover). I am in Audio Suite 9. Can you give more explicit instructions for how to save this file? Actual steps - so I can actually recreate the fix? Thanks so much and I appreciate any help! |

> Now however I've got a file playing at 1.5x the speed it's supposed to What kind of file is this? If it is truly playing back 1.5x the speed it is supposed to then it has probably been recorded at 32kHz and is being played back at 48kHz. Post the file somewhere and we'll have a look at it and hopefully be able to fix it for you. Mark |
