If I have existing video sound track and I open with SF ... an obvious tool for me would be to apply an optimization or auto leveling ... which would go through track, reducing peaks to suitable level.
Is this possible ... I have found I can do it manually by selecting a selection and using normalize ... but this will be very slow on many 10's of hrs of video.

If overall compression is what I need can you explain or point me to a link ... ( I may be misunderstanding you) what I want is when I Load an audio track typically there are some peaks that exceed the +/- 6 level points.

Is there any tool, process etc. that I can run against track or portion of it to automatically brings the peaks down, rather than adjust each with normalize tool.

In SF, open 'Help> Index" and select "Compression". This should give you enough info to use 'Wave Hammer"
Warning: Excessive amounts of WH Compression & Volume Maximizing can induce audible distortion. Make a back up copy of the original file until your proficient.

Sorry, You must have the 'Audio Studio' version which does not have Wave Hammer.
I believe SF-AS does have at least one compressor. Read the help files or manual on that (or other compression explanations and tutorials) and/or experiment until you get it to your liking.
In addition there are many free comp/limiters available. I am particularly fond of Jeroen Breebaart's Broadcast Processor which has a multiband comp, peak limiter, soft AGC (which I use when RMS or peak compression does not 'work') Jeroen also has other free and purchase VST plug-ins and bungles that are very reasonably priced and sound remarkably good.

There is also a free standalone device known I think as the "Levelator" (or something to that effect.) I don't know how it works or where to get it. Search.

Yep it is SF Studio that I have .. and nothing about compression anywhere in Help.
The nearest seems to be normalize.

Do you know if all of Joren Breebaart's plugins will work with SF 10a? Your comments about his programs are very positive. Of course, I will test the trial before buying.

Thank you for the informaiton.
