Subject:recording problems

When I press 'done' to hear the track I've created...about the first 4 seconds play, then the rest is muted. I recently did a system restore on my computer...could this have something to do with it? Are my settings off? Sometimes it doesn't even play the 4 seconds...the whole recorded track is silent. Can someone please help? this thing is driving me crazy.

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile.

What audio hardware/soundcard are you using? Are you using ASIO drivers?

What are you recording? Audio or MIDI?

If MIDI, what soft-synth are you using?

If audio, do you have waveforms displaying for the recorded material beyond the 4 seconds?

yes asio driv ers..but I'm just loading instrumentals from my documents as track one, then loading an empty track to record...have to look and see what soft synth I'm using. Waveforms are displaying all the way through...just can't hear what was recorded...help.
