Subject:Using Acid's DirectX Plugins in another DAW?

Hi Guys, Is it possible to use the directx plug-ins that came with Acid Pro 5, 6 and 7 within another DAW? I'm wondering about the Sony ones also, but more importantly the ones that have come as add-ons for the last few versions of the programs, such as the Native Instruments keyboard bundle and the Isotope mastering plugs. Is there any way to do that? Or is the whole point of DirectX to keep you from using it elsewhere? Thanks in advance! iLLogicaL |

Sony's DX plug ins show up and are useable in Reaper (don't know about other DAWs). However the Izotope and NI stuff is coded only for some of Sony's apps (only the newest versions) and are not available in other DAWs. |

Thanks, drbam. I've tried now in Reaper and FL Studio to get the Sony plugins to show up, but they don't. I do see something that's recently appeared in my Windows start menu entitled "Register your Sony Directx Plugins". I assume this is part of the problem, but when I click on it I just get a small black OS-system type box that opens up and then disappears and nothing seems to happen. The only difference between Reaper and FL Studio is that in FL Studio the three NI guitar combo fx that came with AP7 show up, but nothing at all shows up in Reaper. The Sony ones don't appear in either. Any ideas? I would have assumed that registering my copy of Acid Pro would register the directx plugins, and don't remember having to do this separately in the past. Thanks again! |

DX plugins: I see them in SONAR, Reaper, and FL Studio. They work as expected. I would suggest a uninstall and reinstall, but if they are available in ACID, then they should be available in any DX host. WRT the VSTs, that depends on whether the host is scanning for them where they were installed to. The default is program files/vstplugins but your system may have a different default. The VSTs and VSTis we ship with ACID are all available to any third party program. The only plug-ins that are limited are the Izotope plug-ins that are part of Sound Forge, which can now be used in ACID 7.0d, but you still need to be a registered Sound Forge 10 user and have Sound Forge installed. Peter, thank you for the reply. I was actually in the middle of trying a complete reinstall and got stuck because when I start up the reinstalled software, the only two options it gives me is 'buy now' or 'close'. It says my trial is expired, and there's no apparent way for me to enter my serial number. How would I get around this? I wasn't having any trouble with VST's, for what it's worth. |

I'm looking around online, and came across this thread on the Sonar forums: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1912970 It talks about how 32-bit directx plugins don't get recognized by the 64-bit version of Sonar. I'm trying to get the 64-bit version of Reaper to see these plugins...is that likely the problem? I would assume so, but they didn't show up in Fruity Loops either, though I don't remember if that was a 64-bit version. And now I'm reading on the Reaper forums that 32-bit plugins should play fine in 64 bit Reaper through a bridge. Crikey. I've tried a few 3rd party plug-ins too, and they're not being recognized either, so I'd say the problem likely transcends Sony. BUT, I'm still locked out of Acid Pro, so any advice on how to resolve this Buy/Close conundrum would be greatly appreciated : ) Thank you! |
