Subject:CDRW not recognized from USER account in Win2K

SF5 works great from an Administrator account for
Extracting or Burning, but does not see the CDRW from a
User of Power User account in Win2K.

Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

This is a standalone box, not on a network, and the same
behavior is reproducible on two machines ... IOW, there
is "No Selction" in the device list box whan logged on as a
User.

We have four engineers who use this box and we want to
maintain thier User accounts for obvious reasons, not to
mention that we don't want everyone to have Administrator
access to a box that is critical to our operations.

Thanks for any input.

Come on Sonic Foundry ... help us out with this one.

We have spent the last two years buying your software,
answering your customers questions on the Vegas Forum, and
generally touting your products.

Now _we_ need some help on an issue and none is forthcoming
and my e-mail to tech support remains unanswered?

In the interest of not leaving any dangling threads, we did
get an answer of sorts in another forum.

For those interested, SF's answer - apparently straight
from the top - is that it is basically impossible for a
user logged as other than "Administrator" to burn or rip
CD's under Win2k as these are devices which can't be
directly accessed unless logged on as Administrator.

For those running Win2K and wishing to use a common sense
approach to managing a computer in a multiuser environment,
you might want to try Easy CD Creator by Adatec, or
versions of WaveLab prior to 3.0b to do your burning
ripping ... they seem quite able to perform this impossible
task with ease.
