That's a latency issue and is normal. To minimize the effect you have to run with a low latency for recording. Or you could try sliding the vocal track back in time to sync up with the rest of the audio. Jack |

One way to over come this is to always leave a 1 or 2 measure blank at the beginning of your song, and put a click track in those measures (or start your drum loop early). When you begin a live recording (audio track), create tick sounds with your mouth or guitar, or whatever it is you are recording, in time to the clicks you put in the blank measures. When you play back, pause and set the song cursor over one of the clicks, and magnify the timeline. You will then see how much latency you are dealing with, and as mentioned in the previous post, slide the audio track so that the clicks you recorded re-align with the click track. Works every time. bg |

It would help if you filled in your system profile so we could see what equipment you have. Without knowing... you have to make sure that you are using a sound card that has low latency ASIO drivers. Then in Options | Preferences | Audio Device make sure that your ASIO device drivers are selected and that you have the latency set for around 5ms. If you are using the sound chip on your motherboard then you might want to try a driver called ASIO4ALL which works with generic sound chips. ~jr |

Not wanting to hijack the thread but my understanding and experience is that achieving 5ms latency requires a fairly robust system does it not? |

Actually, 5ms is 256 samples which shouldn't be hard to achieve at all with a good audio interface and well written ASIO drivers. I've been using this setting on my M-Audio Firewire 410 for years now since I had a single core 3.0Ghz Pentium 4. ~jr |
