vegas video...Sound Card For AMD K6III Processor

I have a sound blaster card and I want to upgrade to a pro
level card. My question is: Which is the best sound card
for the money that would work best with an AMD K6III 450
mhz Processor (like most people, money is limited)? I was
told that some cards might give me problems with their
drivers, etc., because they are designed for pentiums.
Therefore I am looking for some advice as to which ones
might be the best for the money.

Honestly, chipset conflicts are going to be a larger issue
than the processor. Look out for older VIA chipsets that
have trouble with OHCI 1394 cards. The same PCI bus
latency and timing issues come up with high-end audio cards.

I like the RME Hammerfall (DIGI9652/DIGI9636), and a 9636
(no word clock, but it doesn't sound like you have an all
digital studio) with 8 analog ins and outs can be had for
well under $1000. The RME drivers are very solid under
Win2K, which is rare.

If multi-track recording isn't an issue, Echo has some fine
products as well (in Win9x).
