I, too, have had troubles with VLC in Win7-64, so now I rely mostly on KMP. But GOM Player and SMPlayer also get some use.

However, I still have not found a player that will play MP4 files encoded with X264 codec. The files open just fine in Vegas 9c, so I know they're good. But they crash some players, and in others they play in slo-mo with sound way out of sync with the video.

Has anyone found a good player for MP4 files in Win7-64?

LReavis,

I had Win7-64 for a month, and now have Win7-32.
I have:

1. Media Player Classic (no installation required)

2. ffdshow (requires installation)

3. Haali Media Splitter (requires installation)

This is the killer combination and my MPC can play every video file in the world (except Real media, which I hate).

You can also try Media Player Classic Home Cinema:

I use Win Media Player 12 - what don't you like about it?

on edit : It also plays MP4 and AVCHD smoothly.

many thanks, MozartMan - good to hear, but I'm a bit leary of ffdshow. I installed a version a couple of years ago and it killed some of my Camtasia screen-recorder functions. Their tech people find the problem right away and suggested I get rid of ffdshow. However, I found that to be easier said than done, and finally had to rename some of the ffdshow files in order to get Camtasia to work properly again.

I did notice on the ffdshow webpage that you linked to that over 70 bugs have been fixed, so maybe this no longer is a problem.

I wonder, is anyone using ffdshow with Camtasia without a problem? How about any other problems?
