What significant difference is there between a fully patched 98 install and 98SE that Acid 3.0 can't install on 98? I've got all the DX8 stuff in and running, but honestly, I can't think of anything that my 98 install doesn't have that 98SE does - so why require, specifically, SE? |

Tprebble, I'm not certain as to the specifics, but I know that there is a significant difference between the way 98 Gold (aka First Edition) and 98 SE work internally. To my understanding, there was a large overhaul that took place in the multimedia section of Win 98G to 98SE to make way for more stable USB connections, Firewire devices, and DirectX 8. I've owned and used both versions for an extended amount of time, and I can assure you, despite the fact that they're both based on the Win9x kernel, they run MUCH differently. 98 SE is WAY more stable and accepting of high performance devices. Because of these I/O and multimedia structuring/throughput differences, Sonic Foundry products simple can't run properly on 98G. They're made to take advantage of the benefits of 98 SE's features that 98 Gold just can't offer. It's just not up to snuff. Sorry I can't be more specific than that, but it's the way it is. Do consider upgrading. It could be worth you while. Best wishes, Nick LaMartina |

When we release Acid Pro 3.0 it will support Windows 98 as long as you have IE 5. Thanks, Nancy |
