I'm running SF on laptop and would like to limit/compress
the incoming signal. Any computer plug-ins available? Any
thoughts on this use of compressor?

Thanks

I think that the only way to do what you are after is to
use an external hardware compressor. By the time SF sees a
signal it has already gone through the A/D converter so any
clipping in the I/P signal will already be present.

That is correct. There is no way to compress the incoming
signal in Sound Forge. Outboard gear would be necessary.
