Subject:Acid Pro 6/7 : send MIDI to VST plug-in

Hello,

I need to send MIDI data to a VST harmonizer plug-in to follow the chord progressions of a vocal part.
Is there a way to do it with Acid 6 or 7 ?
Any tips and tricks with third-party utilities ?

By the way, which harmonizer plug-in do you use ?

Thanks.

No, ACID does not permit you to send MIDI to a VST FX Plug-in.

Wow! I've been trying like hell to get Reaktor 5's "Classic Vocoder" to work in ACID as an effect on an audio track, and haven't been able to get the MIDI signal into it (at least 5 hours trying to get it to work). I thought it would be relatively easy to just assign the MIDI channel on a MIDI track and then it would be available to activate the MIDI Input on the same channel in the plug-in.

I just thought it was a matter of an overcomplicated process to do this - but that it was possible. The documentation on MIDI in the ACID manual isn't great either. It took me a grand total of about 1 minute to get it operational in Fruity Loops. But the version of FL I have, doesn't allow live input, which is what I wanted to do with the Vocoder in ACID.

This is a complete bummer.

I had a similar experience recently with another VST plugin and VSTi. I wrestled with everything I could figure to try but no luck. I was really hoping Acid would work since I have AMS. I downloaded the pro demo but still no luck.

FWIW, you might check out Reaper. The plug-in I was trying to use worked the first time. Reaper also allows you to patch MIDI in and out to the plug-in. The midi editing is difficult to get at though.

Hey you guys, please take the time to do a feature request for this as I'm trying to get them to add this basic feature and the more people that request it the better. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I'll ask for that feature for the sake of others, but to be honest there is no way I'm dropping any more money into a product that should have had this feature to begin with. Not really a "Pro" product if you can't fully utilize such plug-ins that work easily in much older versions of less professional programs (e.g.,Fruity Loops 4).

ACID is the sequencing interface that I really like and I like when they added the MIDI functionality to it, but with all of the functions, features and menus in the program, it is just astounding that it doesn't have this feature. I'm not one to upgrade all of the time, because there is a new learning curve and it really stymies creativity and flow. It would be much easier to have the live recording with the vocoder effect than recording the vocal and then applying the vocoder to that recording in a different program and hoping that it gives the desired effect.

ACID appears to only still be exceptional at one thing, recorded sample sequencing and manipulation. The MIDI abd VST functionality is nice but nowhere near as intuitive as many other applications on the market (learning external control assignment, automation and recording in Pro 6 was all a very big investment of time).

Hello Peter,

Realistically, what are the chances that this will be included in version 7? Thanks for your help,

Rockit

Hello Peter...I have to concur with Rockit. What are the chances that this could be included in version 7? If not, are there any assurances that this is, in fact, being seriously worked on...It seems as if this is becoming a major issue for many of the faithful ACID Pro users on a lot of forums that I visit. Please...please...

As has always been Sony policy, we do not discuss what will or will not be in any future version of ACID.

I discovered this same problem when trying to use Sugar-Bytes Artillery2 with Acid.

The only workaround i found was to just use a different DAW to host the plugin with Acid running in Rewire slave mode.

Reaper works great for this because it's very light on memory and cpu overhead.

It's a great DAW and there's even a skin that makes it look just like Acid, but doesn't have all the loop features that Acid Pro does, so I keep working in Acid
