how do I render 48kHz, 24bit or convert to 44.1 kHz 16bit, in order not to lose any information, I heard I need to use dither... what would be the right way? |

You cannot downsample from 24/48 to 16/44 without losing some information. It is physically impossible, regardless of what you heard. The situation you posed results in a data loss of about 35%, by my quick calculation. Of course you want to dither when downconverting bit-depth, but that does not recover any lost information. Dithering, which is the addition of random bits of information, only results a fuzzy averaging of the regression error (simplified explanation). The Bit Depth Converter in SF Pro provides all the options and helpful information you need. When downsampling to 44.1K, you should also apply anti-aliasing to reduce distortion of higher frequencies. If there is any clipping at all, your audio is not going to sound very good after downsampling. After running the Bit Depth Converter and Resampling, "Save As" WAV, then use the 16/44 dropdown template. Message last edited on11/16/2009 6:04:29 AM bymusicvid10. |
