It seems today 11/15/2009 the sony collection of software I have, wants to load this media manager 2.4 but when they try, A window opens (Initializing Data base service ) the software freezes.
I have tried to remove and reinstall the media manager 2.4...but now the installation freezes when Media library data base maintence is being preformed.....the latest remove / reinstall I made I got to a second window..(.initializing Database services.).. and it freezes up...

This just started to happen...cause it was working ok a few days ago, and I never had any problems with it since I installed it way back in time.....I believe I have had a windows Automatic update today...Could be something to do with that?

Anyways..any help on this..?
Can I use Acid / vagas / sound forge with out the media manager?
Will it ruin my old projects that worked with it installed?

Does anyone know why this problem exists?

Thanks in advance

You can use ACID Pro 7 without Media Manager; it's just a tool to help you organize and browse ideas. Once the associated media is inserted into your project and saved, it should get out of the way and shouldn't have a problem with Media Manager not being installed.

Not sure what made it go kablooey. If I remember correctly (and perusing my installed list of programs), the Media Manager needs tools like Microsoft's SQL server and C++ (which it should install if not already installed). Did you try uninstalling those programs as well as Media Manager and try installing again?

Thanks for the reply.

I have removed the manager 2.4 from my system.
It seemed to freeze up on installation...But after CTRL ALT DEL and closing down the installer I'm able to find it installed...I found in add remove programs the media manager was installed...I feel it is not installed correctly or completely...So I removed it.

Now The acid pro and other software seems to be O.K.

All my projects load up fine with out the manager.

Lastest updates were security (KB969947),
Internet Explorer (KB976749),
on the same date the problem developed.

Funny thing was these updates arrived and were ready to install, before I booted / logged into windows.

What happened was I turned on the power to my PC in the morning...and went to get my coffee.
When I returned, the blue screen / log in page was showing as usual.
But I had forgotten to turn on my Audio fre wire interface...So I selected restart , with out logging in....it then said it had updates to install...and to not turn off the PC while they were installing...I believe it said their were three updates.
But I only found two with dates of that day in add remove programs..

Now how could I recieve updates if I didn't log in?
If this is possible, it sure leaves a big hole in the PC security system.
because while they boot up...they may be open for attack by hackers.

Could be they were already down loaded into a temp folder though, and only sprang to life when the system booted...or was shut down?

Oh one odd thing has occured.
When turning off the PC after a day of removing /reinstalling...removing... the media manager, configuring MS CONFIG, turning off unknown and redundant services to speed up boot times and freeing up resources,.....and playing music / recording...The computer did not want to shut down.
I tried sevral times to do so...but it just hung....
So I pushed the reset button...which resets, and it starts booting again...So I pushed the power button....it seemed to go off .....but a few seconds later it powered back up, and started to boot again.
I again pushed the power button...and waited to make sure it stayed off....and it did...I hope.

I feel this is not the first time something like this has occured....
Meaning Powering down, going to bed...waking up in the morning and finding the PC on..waiting to log in....

Could be I have a bug in the system...wouldn't doubt it...
Although I do use the fire wall and have Virus protection..But this only loads when one is booted into windows..

C++ 200? something or other was installed recently by a software I installed.
Might of over writen something?

SQL server...hmmm...I wanted to uncheck the check box on this in MS CONFIG....But I didn't.
I got so many SERVERS Running in the background...So many services too...

I feel this computer although it is a dual core x6800...is now slower to responding to commands than my old system P3 733 which has one core .

Just some observations....thinking out loud...

Thanks again.

Could your system be set to go into sleep mode rather than completely turning off? There are settings in Windows that determine what kind of action is taken depending upon what's specified. e.g., you can tell Windows to go into sleep mode when you push the power button on your system.

The general rule of thumb is that the longer a system stays on without being turned off, the more that can go wrong (even though 7, Vista and XP are a little more robust than previous versions). Could be just a case of Windows acting wonky (which wouldn't be too unusual). :)

If this is a newer system, chances are likely there are newer drivers, BIOS, etc available. Might want to check that out. (And if you never attempted this before, be sure to read instructions to the letter, especially concerning updating the BIOS.)

I don't like all the hand-holding that Windows does by default, so I choose to turn all the automatic updates and related features off; I manually use the Windows Update feature when I feel the need to update (which is frequent).

If you have or use a router, the router will usually have a hardware firewall of some sort so you can skip using a software firewall (though there are some who choose to use both).
