Hello, in older versions of Acid I used to be able to set up a loop and record midi to it. The recording would keep going past the loop region. With Acid 7 when I reach the end of the loop my midi recording goes back to the beginning. This is useful for recording a segment but is it Is it possible to loop playback but also have the midi recording continue past the loop region? If not the I guess I can copy and paste my loop region lots of times but that is not very convenient. Thanks,

Kit

You are talking about ACID 5 or earlier. Yes, that was how the modal recording state could work. It was not intentional, but ACID did not have "takes/clips" like it does since ACID Pro 6.

The behavior you describe with ACID Pro 7 is correct, and by design. It would not make sense to record outside of the loop region. It would have to be done through some new record mode for MIDI that doesn't exist.

However, you could paint out the loop you want to jam against for a long time, then record your MIDI against that. A bit more work to set up, but not as bad as painting each recorded take out along the time line.

Thanks for the reply, Peter. Will Acid 4 and 7 live side by side. I'm tempted to reinstall Acid 4. Painting out the tracks is a nuisance. You mentioned recorded takes. Does Midi create a different take each time it reaches the end of the looped region?

Yes. You may have to contact our customer support in order to register the product as that was a Sonic Foundry version.

Yes, recording MIDI over a loop creates a different take - though we call them clips. You can paint any clip anywhere on a track as desired. You can also join the seperate MIDI clips into a single long clip.

If you record your MIDI in ACID 4, I recommend you export the midi file and import it into ACID Pro 7. There are limitations to loading ACID 4 projects into ACID Pro 7 that will require you to fix up the project as the MIDI features of ACID Pro 7 far exceed those of ACID 4.
