Hi everyone, I just download the newest Ultra ATA release from Intel (Ver. 6.10) and now Soundforge can see the cd-rom. I think the problem was due to it being labeled as SCSI by the older ATA software driver. Anyway, cd-r works as well as audio extraction from my regular cd rom. Rob |

VIA has a fix for it's ultra ATA drivers as well. its the 4 in 1 4.29 it tells me that win 2k service pack 2 will let the drives run at full speed but for now they are limited to UTA 66 and no longer show up as SCSI devices. |

really? Service Pack 2 is out? Damn....where have I been! If you go into the registry you can actually change it to say enable Ultra 100. I think the tweak was on 3dspotlight.com. Under my Ultra ATA companion it say that ATA mode 5 is enabled which is 100 in other words. Rob |

sp2 is fortcomming as i understand it. the registry is a scarry thing that has kept me up at night, literaly. my drives are only uta 66 so iwill wait until i can afford to set up an ide raid configuration to jump to that throughput level. |

yeah, I hear ya. It took me a while to work up the courage. The nice thing is that you can always roll back to when you last booted up before you made the changes in case something goes terribly wrong. I hear Windows XP will have even greater support for this. Since you don't have UDMA 100 hardware I wouldn't see the reason for the registry tweak anyhow. Now all I need is for soundforge to update their help fiel section...nothing ever happens when I hit "help" on anything. I guess the PDF file on the cd is there for a reason though. Rob |
