I am having a problem recording from my tape deck. The sound quality really stinks. After recorded it sounds as if the speakers are turned high and I get that noisy, crackly sound. I have adjusted the volume controly on the system and in the software. I have tried adjusting the meters. To no avail. Any suggestions? |

What are the record level meters indicating as the peak values? From your description it sure does sound like the input sound is clipping. Make sure you adjust the volume of the line input for recording, not just playback (most soundcards keep separate settings for each). Call up the Windows mixer by double-clicking the little speaker on your taskbar, choose Options -> Properties, and then click the option for 'Adjust Volume for Recording'. If you have a tape playing and leave the Sound Forge record window open onscreen, you can easily set the correct level. Basically, the peak values over the level meters should never appear on a red background (indicates clipping). |

Hi You could also try checking the dc offset checkbox in the record dialog then click calibrate then try recording again. Also make sure your sound card is selected in Sound Forge options or try Microsoft sound mapper its supposed to select the correct device for you or the best one for your system. Hope this helps See ya |
