Subject:recording a VST output driectly to an audio track?

Hi! I have setup a MIDI track with the MIDI output going to a VST (absynth). At the same time, I want to also setup an audio track to record the audio output of the VST in real time as it is being triggered ny the MIDI track. Haven't been able to find a way to do this. The only way I have found to record the VST audio is to first record the MIDI to a MIDI track, then select TOOLS>RENDER TO NEW TRACK to render out the VST's audio. Is it not possible in AP7 to route the audio output of a VST instrument directly to an audio track input and record the VST output in real time? Thanks |

Is it not possible in AP7 to route the audio output of a VST instrument directly to an audio track input and record the VST output in real time? Correct. It is not possible to record the output of a VST Instrument to an audio track directly. You could freeze the MIDI track, locate the wave file generated during the freeze and then load that onto an audio track. (I would copy the freeze track generated wave file to another location/name as ACID depends on the existance of the frozen file as long as the MIDI track is frozen.) Peter |

I had no idea how to use the freeze function, so I guess I'll learn now! Is this the shortest path or is the RENDER TO NEW TRACK as efficient? |

Render to new track will include the signal path beyond the MIDI track. So if you have FX on your synth bus or any subsequent busses that your synth may route though, those will be included in the render. A freeze renders only the audio that is generated by the MIDI and the Soft-synth. Peter |
