Subject:Using Acid 7 Pro and 12 GB RAM-Running out of Mem!

I have an XPS Studio running Vista 64 with 12gb ram and 2.67 i7 chip running Acid 7. I find that when using KONTAKT player, after I have inserted 4-5 MIDI tracks, the program runs out of memory. Similarly, if I record using a soundfont player, the memory overload quickly occurs. I have been told that this is because Acid 7 Pro is a 32 bit system and so the code will only use 2GB of the 12 GB of ram. Do any of you have any suggestions for: -Patches -Programs -Tweaks That will allow me to make more use of the 12GB of ram so that I can expand the number of tracks per session? Thanks, Dr. Alan J. Two posts on essentially the same subject - I'll just post to this one: The only way, until Acid becomes 64 bit, to get mote available ram memory usage is to add the 3gb switch to one of the bootup files. I'm not sure, but I think it's the win.ini file. Take a look here in the various forums for an answer or Google the term and you should see a number of references to what I'm talking about. You should be able to run more than just 4 or 5 MIDI tracks triggering samples in Kontakt. I'm assuming here that you're using just one instance of Kontakt and loading multiple samples sets in their. By anyone's standards I have a way under-powered machine (Toshiba Satellite 1955 laptop with a single 2.53 GHz Pentium 4 chip and 1 gig ram running XP Home sp3) running Sonar 8.3.1 and I can get upwards of 6 separate instances of the full version of Kontakt each with a symphonic instrument from a sample library (EWQLSO) driven by separate MIDI tracks before I even begin to run into problems. Then again I have XP tweaked so much I only have, before I open Sonar, 19 processes running with a total ram load of 100 meg. This is a 32 bit system. With your system properly setup you should be able to get more. Jack |

Actually, they are different questions: -What are Low memory usage players (KONTAKT, sfz, etc) -Are there methods to expand overall memory beyond 2gb in Acid 7. Thanks Jack! |

Okay - they may be 2 different questions. One of the points I was trying to get across was that with your setup you should be able to get more tracks out of your system than apparently you are getting. Granted I don't run Acid as my main program (I still keep Acid 6 on my computer for when I need to make my own loops - I use Sonar 8.3.1 in XP 32 bit for recording), but with my lowly system in 1 gig of ram running Kontakt full version I can easily get 6 instances of Kontakt each with a single instrument loaded inside Sonar being driven by an equivalent amount of MIDI tracks before the system starts to protest. You need to look at what you have running besides Acid to see where you can cut down on services Vista is running. You know, things like anti-virus, windows messenger, disk indexing, a whole bunch of things. And apparently in the other thread you have here the 3gb switch doesn't work for Acid - thought it did.
