HI!
Do you know when Acid 30 is available?

No one (except the folks at SF I suppose) knows for sure
when ACID 3 will be here, but we can rest assured knowing
that it's soon. Judging from the recent and numerous
package deals (the free ACID Style loops, ACID sampler loop
pack, Style Stations, free ACID PRO 2 deal, etc), one could
assert that Sonic Foundry is pushing the ACID 2 line
clearance-style to make room for ACID 3. You know, like
those silly car commercials. "WE'RE MAKING ROOM FOR ALL OUR
2002 MODELS, SO ALL THE 2001 MODELS MUST GO! SALE SALE
SALE!!!" I'd say in the next couple months, if not sooner.
That's just a guess though.

here's what was said on acidplanet on 4/2/01:

>>The ACID 3.0 public beta will more than likely be
available in a few weeks. Yep, it's got MIDI, a video
track, beatmapper, chopper, etc. Very cool.

But I want to give you a heads up on something that will be
a big deal to some of you. It will not run on NT. ACID 3.0
uses components from DirectX 8.0 that cannot be installed
on Windows NT. That is Microsoft's choice, not ours.

For whatever reason, I'm sure it's a disappointment if
you're an NT user. You will need to choose for yourself
whether you want to keep using NT or not. Microsoft's
choice to discontinue support for NT in DX8 means that this
scenario will occur over and over. We are not the only
company whose new releases will not support NT.

Hear that sound? That's my jaw hitting the floor. MIDI?
Video track? Beat mapper? DirectX 8? It sounds like Sound
Forge, Acid, and Vegas all in one (with a little bit of
Cakewalk!). I feel like it's Christmas time already! =)

MIDI?!! i really wonder how they are planning to implement
MIDI in Acid exactly. just imagine playing a real time,
timestretched Acid loop on your Midi keyboard... and this
sound going real time thru FX 1, 2 and 3.... drool!

ok back to reality now. likely it's Midi as it has now,
i.e. you can sync Acid with another program, but only if
you have the correct device and troublesome stuff like
that...sigh.

Acid pro just went on sale at Mars music for 149.00 after a
79.00 rebate and on the package it says free upgrade to
Acid 3.0

Of course, "has MIDI" could mean a huge variety of things.

All I want is for it to be setup for live remixing. And's
it's not like 2.0 was all that far from it. It just needs
not have that horrible pause when "loop mode" is turned off
during playback. With a fast enough computer, 2.0 handled
mute on/off and even new dragged in loops without even a
stutter, but the big glitch when turning on/off "loop mode"
made it worthless for live.

Sounds like SONAR.

Yes, it does like SONAR. But the curious thing is that
SONAR also seems to borrow a lot of what was in ACID Pro
2.0, to the extent that some people are saying that they
can do everything in SONAR that they used to do in ACID
pro. For example, it has an explorer view pretty much like
ACID that allows double-clicking on wav files to play them
and dragging n' dropping onto the track view. SONAR also
has real-time time-stretching and pitch-shifting. Methinks
that Sonic Foundry and Cakewalk have done some sort of
mutual deal, i.e., Cakewalk getting the time-stretching and
pitch-shifting algorithms and Sonic Foundry the MIDI stuff.
Just my 2 cents, of course.

Yes, you can do everything in SONAR that you used to do in
ACID Pro + lot more. If you have loops that aren't
acidised, you can do that right there in SONAR, in one
second.
