Subject:Only records the right channel

My input/output is stereo, but it only records the right channel. I changed the audio device and disabled anti-virus software, but not work.

I was able to remedy my problem by switching from Line In to Stereo Mix

Glad you got it fixed. I do that kind of thing myself, overlook the obvious :)

Be careful... that doesn't sound like a solution at all. Stereo Mix is the summation of all of the sound that you computer produces (the equivalent of "What-U-Hear" on a Soundblaster card). In general, you do not want to use this as a recording source. What if your computer beeps with a Windows dialog while recording? That beep will get recorded! Stereo Mix will also be noisy because it's recording all of the inputs on your computer at once. This is not good.

You should always select the proper input and record from only that input to make sure that you only record what you want to record and that the noise floor is as minimal as possible.

What are you recording? Is it a stereo instrument? I'm going to bet that it is not since the M-Audio Fast Track has one mono guitar input and one mono mic input. What you want to do is switch your track to MONO if you are recording a mono instrument.

Stereo is something you mix down to... it is rarely what you want to record unless you are recording a live event with two microphones. A guitar is mono (almost always). Your voice is mono (definitely always). They should be recorded onto mono tracks. The default mono input is Left only. It is possible that some devices record mono as Right only. The key is to always record a mono source to a mono track.

When you mix your final song, you can place these mono tracks anywhere you want in the stereo mix.
