Subject:Removing high frequency blips from an audio file!

Hello, I'm currently editing a video-film captured with a Digital Video camera. During the transfer from the DV-cam to the computer there were some interference, causing the sound to have occasional blips in them, short beeps. It would make a whole lot of difference if i could remove theses blips from the sound files using Sound Forge. I just don't know how to go about it. I've tried a couple of filters and processed the sound a bit, but nothing has worked so far, and there doesn't seem to be any help available on this subject in the manual. I'd be delighted for any help at all! Thanks! Have a good one! -Isac Niklasson |

Isac, You are not alone. I too, have suffered from the mysterious electronic blips that pop up here and there in DV clips. An annoyance, yes. Impossible to fix? No. There are three things you can do. First, you could simply mute out the sections where the bleeps occur in SF, so long as it's not over a narrative or important auditory event. In the case that the blips happen over the material, try running a notch filter in the 1050Hz-1110Hz range, which is where the noise exists (at least on my material). Please not that I'm not sure if all DV noise happens at the same frequency. Your last option is to simply do wave-form editing with the pencil tool. As the blips are short, you can simply draw a strait line at the +/-0dB mark from the beginning to the end of the blip, thus eliminating the noise. I find this method works best. Either way, give it a shot and tell me if you're successful. Nick LaMartina |
