Subject:sound forge 9 problem

I just upgraded to Sound Forge 9 from 7 and a week later they come out with 10! Here's my problem. I feed a cassette into the system and it sounds fine, yet when I go to play it back in the Sound Forge screen, the sound is distorted, like when they're trying to disguise a voice on TV. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? My new computer has Vista 64 which is a nightmare. Could that be the problem? Thanks for any advice as to what I'm doing wrong.

Vista isn't the issue. It sounds (excuse the pun) like perhaps you're recording your levels too loud?
