I read somewhere that VMD (virtual midi driver) in not included with my purchase of SF 5.0. What is this and do I need it and where do I get it? Thanks |

A Virtual MIDI Driver is basically a software driver that acts as a big switch board for your MIDI devices. Normally, when a MIDI device is in use, and a second program tries to access it, it's simply considered, "IN USE", and the operation ceases (i.e., no simultaneous sharing). A VMD negotiates between the programs and allows one device to be used by multiple programs (by regulating a "loopback setup). The motivation behind this (in SF's case) is to allow synching, triggering, and other MIDI operations to occur simultaneously with other programs (other than SF) that may be using the same device. Unless you're doing this advanced kind of work, don't worry about it. If you want one, go check here: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Hubis_LoopBack_device/ Nick LaMartina |
