hi, i try recording using a headset that has a microphone attached to it but no sound is recorded thru the mic. perhaps the mic is faulty. if not, do i need any plug-in or special sound card in order for me to record using a headset that has a mic? i am recording on a pc platform and i dun have a problem recording using a normal desktop mic. |

Look at the connector on the headset. How many conductors? You are probably going to have to separate the headphone/microphone connections. The simplest way to do this is to make a pigtail that splits the two functions (mic/headphones) into separate wires. Then terminate each set with a plug. The headsets probably need a tip, ring, sleeve (left, right, common). The mic most likely will need a tip, sleeve (tip hot, sleeve common). Then plug the mic into your sound card's mic in. Plug the other into the sound card's headphone jack (or line out, although I'm not certain line out will have enough drive to power the headsets, but it may) |
