Subject:No Sound Reduction serial number

I bought SF 10 online and downloaded it -- I got a serial number for it and for the ixotrope (sp?) plugins but nothing for the Sound Reduction 2.0 stuff, although it says it comes with SF.

I downloaded it from the site but I need a serial number to install and my SF 10 SN doesn't work. Needless to say I can't get through to Sony in any manner (and live chat simply says to call). Am I screwed for at least the next month (by which time someone at Sony will finally answer their phone)?

I'll update this myself -- I still need an answer but this might help some other poor soul out there.

Sony replied "Hey, it's already in SF 10.0". The only problem is, they're wrong. Oh, it's IN there all right, but it's grayed out and you can't select it even if you have any audio file open. Only by downloading and installing the Noise Reduction 2.0 plugin from this site can I get around that -- but THEN I get asked for a serial number.

So it's a catch-22 -- you can't use the Noise Reduction stuff that's "in there" but you can't install it from the outside or you need a serial number. This is a big bug in SF 10 and if Noise Reduction is important to you I would suggest you wait until they fix this before you upgrade.

This won't help much. I have SF 9 which also included the Sony Noise Reduction. I can say there was not a seperate SN to activate the Noise Reduction or a seperate download. If I click on about on the Noise Filter under Tools it is fully licensed... I have to assume it was registered when I registered SF 9 on install.

Yeah, I'm sure that was the *intent* -- that is, that when SF 10 was installed those tools should be activated. But, while they do appear in the menu, they obviously *aren't* activated (at least for me, running Windows XP Pro, latest version).

Sony has become mute on the issue (after responding to me almost immediately) so I can only assume they were unaware of this or somehow can't figure it out. But it's a definite bummer as I really needed those tools tonight (plus, my nervousness makes me think this might be an issue they can't resolve -- they must have *surely* tested this and yet if it only occurs for me I might be screwed).

Try accessing Noise Reduction via the "Tools" menu and not the "FX Favorites"

It only shows up under tools, but it's grayed out (until I installed it separately, as I said, and then it asks for a serial number).

So... I'll recap. I installed and authorized SF 10, the Noise Reduction tools show on the menu but are not selectable under ANY circumstances until I went ahead and downloaded them from this site and installed them separately, but at that point they ask for a serial number.

I don't know how to be any clearer -- clearly they are not working properly from just an install of SF 10 on my machine.

It sounds like the Forge 10 installer ended prematurely. The NR2 bundle should be installed from the same installer.

Is it possible that you entered your serial in a trial version or anything like that?

Regardless, I'd suggest uninstalling the separate NR2 package you downloaded and re-installing Forge 10.

Actually, the problem is simpler than that -- when I follow the download link from my purchase and download SF10 there IS no installer per se. That is to say, I don't get a Sony splash screen offering the opportunity to install SF, choose language, or install the Sound Reduction stuff. All it does is start the install (it does ask me to choose languages).

So it's a screwed up download file -- lucky me, that I didn't want the physical media (hey, whatever happened to Save the Planet?) and got a f***ed up file. And I suspect I was the first (or at least the first to wonder about the Sound Reduction stuff) since Sony Support seems clueless.

At this point I'm fairly confident it will get resolved -- someone will have to post a proper link somewhere -- but how long it will take is anyone's guess. For now my advice is simple -- don't buy SF 10 if the noise reduction stuff is important and you intend to download. At least not until they get this straightened out.

My Noise Reduction was part of the SoundForge installer.
It was a separate selection in the SF installer that I ran after installing SF.

No S/N required here.

You can re-download the SF installer from the Downloads/Updates page and do a re-install.

That's pretty weird. I installed SF, and NR was there, fully functional. I never saw any separate selection.

Worked perfectly from the very beginning. Nothing additional required.
