Subject:Can't install Sound Forge 10

Sound Forge 10 unpacks, then gets to the set up screen - then nothing happens.
When I click on "install sound forge 10" nothing happens. Likewise if I click on "install noise reduction 2" nothing happens.
If I click on language then it opens with the choice of English or Japanese.
Tried downloading the trial version, tried running it in compatability mode, tried running it as administrator - same result.
Nothing.
Something not right with this.
Put in a support request - will be interesting to see what they come up with.

ps. i didn't unistall Sound Forge 9 first - but that shouldn't matter

This is the second time someone has mentioned seeing NR as a separate install. Huh?

After clicking on the download button, does anyone actually chose Run instead of Save? Could that be how these two people have experienced the phantom NR routine?

Tididit, there are 3 options on the SF 10 install menu, SF 10, NR, and language. My SF file is a saved download. Are you installing as Adminstrator?

I double-clicked the install .exe. I didn't get a "menu." There was a pop-up that asked about language, with English as the default.
From double-click to finish, NR was never an issue.

I had to install SF 2 times because of NR install problems with SF 9. Each time I got a red Pop-up SF 10 banner with 3 choices. SF 10, NR and language. Did you try another download?

When I first downloaded and installed the setup file I had the same experience as you and btw, at the time, NR was already installed from an earlier version of SF. On the opening screen of V10 there were only two options available i.e. one to install Sony Sound Forge Pro 10 and Choosing a Language. However, after uninstalling the NR plug-in by mistake, I ran the same setup file again and the option to install NR magically appeared. It was the second item in the menu along with the other two.

So, apparently if NR is not already installed when you first run the SF10 setup it will not show up at all in the opening screen.

Could this be what's going on in your case? Perhaps NR is already installed on your machine.

If you download Forge 10 from the website and run the installer you should see a menu that allows you to install Forge and/or Noise Reduction. It shouldn't matter if you have a previous version of Noise Reduction on your system.

There was a problem for a few hours on the day of release (Sept 1) where the download didn't have that menu (or Noise Reduction) included, so if you downloaded first thing that morning you might want to redownload the installer.

Sound Forge 9.0 did not have this menu system and Noise Reduction was automatically installed when Forge was. That is not the case with Forge 10.

Thanks,
Dave

SF-10 installed without issue here. I did not try to install NR-2 as it's already there,
and functions normal as do my previous plug-in chains. ( I'm running win XP)

Same deal here with the trial version downloaded today: the installation menu comes up (Install Sound Forge, Install Noise Reduction, Choose Language, Exit) but the only selections which do anything are Choose Language and Exit.

Tried running as admin, in safe mode, version compatibility troubleshooting, all with the same result.

This is on Windows 7 RC1, with Microsoft Security Essentials realtime protection turned off, and Sound Forge 9.0 had been uninstalled prior to this installation.

*UPDATE*

I located the setup file which had been unpacked after double-clicking the downloaded setup package. Double-clicking setup.exe brought up a "choose language for installation" dialog; after that it got to another dialog informing me that the Visual C++ redistributable needed to be installed. After clicking the install button on that, the message "requirements not met" popped up, with the only option being to exit the installation.

One step closer ...

Any luck with the tech support crew on this yet, Whitlam?

*SUCCESS!*

1. Run the downloaded installation file to bring up the installation splash screen
2. Open Task Manager
3. Choose Applications tab if not already selected
4. Right click Sound Forge Pro 10.0 Setup
5. Select Go To Process
6. Autorun.exe should be highlighted. Right click it
7. Select Open File Location
8. Double click Sound Forge Pro 10.0 folder
9. Install the following three exe files by double clicking:
vcredist_x86.exe
vcredist2_x86.exe
wmfdist11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe
10. Reboot
11. Repeat steps 1 through 8
12. Double click setup.exe (if the process hangs, kill it, right click setup.exe and select Run As Administrator)

One of those vcredist_x86 files -- probably the first one -- may not be necessary, but I didn't see any ill effects from installing it, and Sound Forge 10 seems to be working fine.

If Noise Reduction doesn't appear in your menus, you'll need to repeat the process and run that setup.exe file from the Noise Reduction folder.

Next time you run Windows Update or Microsoft Update, it will probably tell you to install a security update for Visual C++. I installed the update and everything still works.

Hope that helps, convoluted as it is. I'm keen to see what happens with this after I wipe the hard drives and do a clean install of Windows 7 when the final product arrives. Phew.

It doesn't install on Win 7 - 64 bit (tried on 3 computers). No help at all with ticket - their response - Win 7 not supported.

I eventually installed it on a Vista 64 PC - without problems.

All other Sony software I have - Vegas 8, 8.1 & 9 + Soundforge 9 - will install and work on Win 7.

It seems interesting to me that SF 10 won't install on Win 7 - which is about to be released.

I replied to them that they will probably get quite a few ticket requests when people migrate to Win 7 and can't install it. No response to that.

Sony could save themselves and everyone else a lot of grief if they would simply port the Sound Forge family of products over to Linux. Software does not have to be open source to run on that platform. While there is some audio and video software (currently open source) that works with Linux, there is nothing on the order of what is available for the two mega platforms. I yearn for the day when those of us who simply want to get some work done and make a living aren't forced to submit to those who keep discontinuing the tools we need.

Ugh . . . .

SF10 just wouldn't load today. Did the usual including a re-install. Still hung on loading. Came here and read Scott's pointers, thank you, and did a Right Click and installed as Administrator - that worked.

Grazie
