For someone like me who already owns a license to Izotope Ozone 4, the Sound Forge 10 upgrade looks a little under whelming. I'm interested in the thoughts of others on this.

I would say that it's definitely worth the upgrade. The event editing feature, disc-at-once ability and the new interface and other new effects make it worth the upgrade. It also seems to run much faster. That's just my opinion, but why not download the trial and see what you think?

Have you used CD architect in the past? One of the things one may notive with v10 is that it is no longer bundled with CDA. However, they have started to incorporate many of the CDA features into v10, although not all of them have made it yet, or I have not found them yet. What is there can be accessed with the "Event Tool" under the tools in the edit menu. I figured this out after going through their tutorials in the Help menu. If you download the trial, I suggest running through those tutorials to see some of the features. As a single application with these capabilities, it makes the upgrade viable as noted by the other reply. The options it is missing (so far) from CDA are things like having seperate plug-in chain options on the same timeline when you are setting up for a disc-at-once or to be able to have a null-fade (no fade at all) when cross-mixing two events.

CD Architect is definitely still included with SF.

Yes. Yes it is. My mistake. When I downloaded SF10, I did not see it pop up as an option. Since I allready had it, the system probably just didn't bother. I also didn't see anything about its inclusion on the product page, which I had become accustomed to over the past 11 years... back when it was still Sonice Foundry...

My concern and wonder about all this started because of ASIO drivers, which CDA does not support and SF does. Hence my interest in the event tool in SF10.

Why on earth would would you need an ASIO driver for an application such as CDA ?

Unless of course your soundcard does not have normal Windows drivers....

geoff

I use ASIO for CDA, as well as even things like Firefox, simply because I use an MBox as my only audio I/O...there's a very useful free utility called Digi MME Helper which allows Digidesign hardware to listen to a vast range of applications. It can be found by following a link on this page: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=1&navid=54&itemid=27146
