Subject:Acid 6.0 freeze on splash screen

To whom it may concern-

I am running Acid Music Studio 6.0 on my XP. It has worked properly since I got it but recently it has stopped working. I have tried a reinstall and this does not fix the problem. Acid opens up the beginning splash screen (guy with the guitar on it) fine, but it will not get passed this point or start the normal "start-up procedure." I have tried running it in compatibility mode with another operating system and still get nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

What did you install? Sometimes it can seem completely unrelated, but it fact it is.

I agree with the last post. I also think that whatever you last installed is causing the problem. To make matters worse, you mentioned Norton Anti-Virus. IMO, that app causes more problems than it solves. You need to try and remember what it was that you installed. Removing it may be all that you need to solve your problem.

And while I'm at it... this brings up a good point....
Call me crazy, but I keep my audio and video systems completely away from the internet, so that I don't have to deal with stuff like Norton screwing with things.
The same applies with non-audio/video apps. Your problem illustrates this point perfectly.
Sony apps (as well as most other pro audio/video apps) work best on a dedicated system. It may seem extravagant to have a totally dedicated DAW or DVW, but the lack of problems like yours makes it worth it.

What does AMS' splash screen tell you about its progress at the point AMS stops responding?

You might try resetting AMS.

Hold down Shift+Ctrl when you start AMS. At the dialog prompt, select Yes.

This will reset AMS' internal settings.

I don't have the $$ for a dedicated computer... I use acid for small random projects no major editing except on rare occasion.

I tried the shift ctrl method just now... It did not work. Acid gives me to info at all. It gets stuck on the splash screen and will not move ahead

I will attach a screenshot:

I have blocked the serial, but this is the screen that it freezes on.

Hello,

I have this problem too, it's caused for me by VST plugins not registering correctly, you can see the name of the plugin it freezes on at the bottom left of the splash screen above the progress bar. Temporarity move the suspect plugin from the vst folder to get Acid to start for the first time, them you can put the plugin back in the VST folder (while acid is still open) and rescan it manually in acid's plugin manager, it will show up in the folder tree in a rejected or ignored folder, right click the plugin and select rescan and it will move it to the correct folder.
i had to do this for 2 or 3 plugins, but it worked for me. Good Luck,

Opps, Maybe not on this version, I thought you were talking about 7Pro, Sorry
