I´m hoping some Sound Forge gurus will be able to help an inexperienced user, so why can´t I hear anything while I´m recording? and how do I playback many windows(channels) at once? |

Virgill, There could be multiple answers to your query. Let me tell you right off that there is no way (to my knowledge) that you can play back multiple windows at once with Sound Forge. It's a 2 track editor, so you'll need something like Vegas or Acid to handle multitrack stuff. As for the recording problem you're experiencing, I'll list a few possibilities: CAUSE 1. Your recording levels are correct, but your playback for WAVE/MP3 is low or muted. REMEDY 1. Go to your mixer settings for Windows and turn up/un-mute your "Play Control" or "Wave/MP3" channels. CAUSE 2. You are recording with a USB microphone, and playing back with headphones/speakers connected to a PCI or ISA sound card REMEDY 2. There is no fix for this. Since the recording/playback buses are different, they can't share data between each other in real time for monitoring purposes. You need to first record to the disk, them play back on the sound card (If you're using USB speakers too, both your microphone and speakers my be full-duplex). CAUSE 3. Your speakers/headphones/microphone aren't plugged in. REMEDY 3. Even if you have to drag the ol' box out, check your connections. Check the quality of your wires too, to make sure there are no cuts or breaks in the insulation. Those are 3 possibilities. Can you be a little more specific about your problem, though? Are your files actually being recorded, but you just can't monitor them during recording? Or is nothing being recorded at all? Try some of the above, and write back here to let me know how it works out. Best wishes, Nick LaMartina |
