If I have a project with nothing but rewire tracks, and all the audio coming from reason, it is not possible to use render as (the button is greyed out) unless I put an audio track in the project and draw a blank audio clip in.

This is completely pointless

There is nothing to render on the ACID time line, so ACID doesn't let you render. Having content in ACID is a requirement.

Maybe you are trying to overcome Reasons inabiliy to use VST FX and want ACID to process the audio where Reason cannot?

That was never the intent of ACID being a ReWire host. It was to allow ACID to use the synths and such in Reason as sound sources or to add to a project in a Reason type app that it could not do or that ACID just worked better for a user at.: Use VSTi synths, loop libraries, record audio, etc.

If you have a different purpose, please explain.

There is also a problems with doing what you want to do:

ReWire does not communicate its project's length to the host.

So, how long does ACID render for?

To ACID, a ReWire client looks like an audio source and a MIDI destination. It would be the same thing as rendering from a mic or guitar plugged into an input and having no media on your time line.

I doubt this will change, but I will bring it up and have it discussed.

the length should be set by the loop region using the save loop as function. I often have sessions making sounds using reason in conjunction with vst fx on the acid mixer. This is because the sound engine in acid is much better than the one in reason, and reason does not have the capacity to use external plugins.

Yes, this is a workaround for the short commings of ReWire.

However, it would require that the user sets up the region otherwise the results would be indeterminate.

It will be considered.
