Easiest that I've found is the Avid DNxHD intermediate codec. You'll both be able to work with the same files that way.

? how does it work, I have no experience working with codecs so please tell me more

I prefer the .mxf codec, Final Cut reads it beautifully
File | Render As | Save as Type/Sony MXF

Then choose the template that matches your sequence settings in FCP, ie' 1920 x 1080.

Does FCP still need a plugin to read .mxf or can the newest FCP version read it directly?

Still needs the plugin, but it's still free, and once installed, it's seamless.

I found a Mac software called clipwrap that does what I need... it just converting the mt2 files into quicktime with no loss of quality. No waiting for rendering etc... My friend is gonna test if it works as they promise today... I'll post what happened later

That looks cool:

Let us know how it works out for you. I wish they had a Windows version.

I've been using ClipWrap for a while and have converted dozens of files. It's lossless, fast and extremely reliable.

I'll throw in a vote for Clipwrap. Fast solution...you only need to re-wrap the clip.

Does anyone know what the name of the MXF plugin for FCP is? I'm having trouble finding it.

I was under the impression that FCP read XD files directly. I produced a Blu-Ray project at the beginning of the year, and a bunch of our footage was from the EX3, which the FCP editor just loved.....and he had all the other formats we used converted to the same 1080i/60 35mbs codec to match.....All editing was really fast on a not so new MAC. This editor was a highly certified FCP guy, by the way.

Whether it requires a plugin or not, this format worked great on FCP.......At that point in time, however, it was not supported by Avid. Don't know if that has changed in the interim this year.

Sony's XDCAM plugin for FCP is free. See "PDZ-KP1 (XDCAM Transfer) - version 2.10.0" here.

M2Ts (HDV) can be imported directly into FCP after re-wrapping. See ClipWrap.

I don't know if Final Cut Express will handle these the same way.

Thanks. Yes, we already have XDCAM Transfer installed, but I can't get it to recognize MXFs. It only seems to work with card structures. I've tried dragging and dropping, Importing, etc, and I cannot open the Sony MXFs from Vegas. I should mention that they will not import directly onto the timeline either.

Is there another codec or plug-in to make this happen? Thanks.

Updated XDCAM Transfer and it works! Thanks.
