Hello... I would really appreciate any help I could get with this question. Obviously, i'm a newbie. I want to record a song with 4 parts/tracks, each with a different soft synth sound. Of course these are MIDI tracks. Now, i've recorded track 1 into acid pro 6 and i'm ready to record a different sound into track 2....WHAT DO I DO HERE? How do I get track 1 to play as I record into track 2 and have both track 1 and the newly recorded track be the result in track 2? |

You do NOT want what you suggest to occur - that would be a totally totally inflexible and incorrect workflow, as well as not possible. 1 - Record the first track. 2 - Add and setup a new MIDI track with the next softsynth. Record the second track (you will hear the first as you record). 3 - And so on for additional tracks, MIDI or audio. 4 - When you've done recording the tracks, you Preview (hit <Play>) to set the appropriate track levels etc). 5 - Then you Mix ( Render) them to a new (audio) track or output audio file. Probably a quick look at the Overview section of Help, or the manual, would be a good idea as a newbie ? Also any online training suh as http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/support/trainingvids.asp?prod=acidpro geoff |

Thanks Geoff, I really appreciate your help. To be honest with you, I thought that I had tried that, but I have tried so many different things over the last weekend it's not funny. Following the workflow you detailed for me, do I need to change input/output channels on anything or do I simply repeat exactly what was done for the 1st track? |

For the extra MIDI track, repeat what you did on the first track, but configure the new soft-synths or patches 'per track' as required. Those setting can, of course, be altered afterwards too.... The 'output' remains the Master for previewing your results. geoff Message last edited on8/10/2009 1:43:23 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

Thank you for the help...I think i'm on to something! Do you have any pointers for setting up the simultaneous play and record? |

You don't have to do anything to hear Track 1 play as you record Track 2. That's ACID's default setting. If it isn't happening, you need help from someone more knowledgeable than me, but it's probably going to happen. The thing you need to watch out for is, once you're finished recording Track 1, be sure to disarm recording on that track, and arm recording on Track 2. Otherwise you'll record over Track 1 with Track 2, which you DON'T want. BTW, the suggestion to read the manual is more than snark. ACID is not a simple program, although it's intuitive once you know it. Also, as manuals go, it's actually well-written and helpful. |
