Subject:ACID users, learn from my mistake...

Boy, am I fuming. I just lost the ACID project I was
working on. Unfortunately, I did not make a backup copy of
this project, which I usually do. Since I really never had
such a problem, I figured, What could it hurt to skip it
this time? And so fate decides to play with my mind.

I've tried to recover the temp files, but to no avail. The
existing project was 0 bytes (which isn't a good sign) so
that was a no go too.

(sigh)

Oh, well, back to square one. This time, though, more
backups will be in order.

A side note: Does this happen to anyone else? I mean, I'm
*always* in fear that a project will crash. It always seems
to happen when I start to add effects like those found in
XFX-1. And you know, if you're the creative type, that
*really* cuts into your creativity a lot so you Sonic
Foundry people, if you're reading this...HELP!

Will exchange system specs, but I can definitely say I
covered all the bases as far as trying to prevent a crash
goes. (Having only "Explorer" and "Systray" active in the
Close Program window, etc.)

'Kay. Done Bitching, :o)

Wow, that's a toughy. I have 128mb of RAM and have no probs
with crashes when using XFX-1. Do you have more than a
couple of disk-based tracks you're working on at a time? I
DO know I have a problem, not with crashing, but with audio
gapping when I get up around 64 tracks, and it doesn't seem
to matter where I set the buffering, but no actual crashes,
so that is different. Do you have any kind of RAM usage
meter installed that you can check what's free and so on?
I've had instances where memory is locked up with certain
apps that don't properly release it when they should. Of
course, if you have only Explorer & Sys Tray open, I don't
know. Hopefully someone can help out. Regarding backups,
yeah, always a good idea. I try to get in the habit of
backing up to my CD burner on CD-RW, but sometimes I let it
lag. It hurts when you lose something important you're
working on. Best of luck.
