Subject:Cheap share recorded waves. SF won't.

Before buying Sound Forge, I used a shareware editor that
had no problems accepting the wav inputs from my Riptide
Mixer.

SF does not record from the wav files. All Master Volume
controls are maxed. All Volume controls are selected.
(None Muted)

When I click on the record button nothing appears to happen.

I have verified Options -> Preferences -> WAVE pull-down is
set properly. In fact, I have tried all combinations.
Nothing appears to work.

Why does a shareware work and not SF?

Any suggestions?

SF needs to have the WAV enabled in Windows Volume Control
Recording Properties. The shareware editor may accomplish
that for people who don't know how to turn it on. Just dig
a little deeper in the bowels of Windows.

On the off-hand chance that you just want to edit a WAV
file, Sound Forge can open, edit and save just about any
WAV file. Have you tried opening the file instead of
playing it through the mixer?

Keep in mind that there is no way to route signal or adjust
levels in Sound Forge. If you follow these instructions,
you will be able to record again:

Open the Windows volume control by double clicking the
yellow speaker icon by your computer's clock. Once the
play control window comes up, go to the Options menu and
select "Properties". Select "Recording" under "Adjust
Volume For" and where it says "Show the Following Volume
Controls", make sure everything is selected. Now
click "OK" and you will get a recording control window.
Under each volume control is a box marked "Select". Make
sure that the one under your source is selected and that
the volume is turned up about three quarters of the way.
If the music is too loud or quiet when you record it, you
can come back to this window and adjust the volume as
necessary.
