When I run the vr tool on a wav using the default settings, I notice a severe drop off in bass. Anyone else have the same problem, or know the cause? Thanks. |

The reduction in very low bass is caused by the inclusion of a low frequency cutoff filter in the Vinyl Restoration algorithm. I believe this was done to remove the very low frequency noise that occurs with most LP recordings. I get around this effect by running a graphic equalization filter with the following settings: 31 Hz set to +8 dB, 62 Hz set to -0.9 dB, 125 set to -2.8 dB, 250 Hz set to -2.7 dB and 500 Hz set to -0.6 dB. The rest of the sliders set to 0.0. I chose those settings by recording a low frequency sweep from side A, bands 4A and 5A on the CBS Labs STR-100 stereo test recording. Then tweaking the graphic equalization sliders to match, as close as possible, the Vinyl Restoration result to the original recording off the STR- 100. You can get the response to follow the sweep signature closely down to about 30 Hz, then the response drops rapidly and accomplishes the original task of reducing the very low frequency stuff that can drive your subwoofers really hard for no reason. If you don't have a similar low frequency sweep signal source I can provide a WAV copy of the STR-100 tracks via email. bill.wood@mindspring.com |
