Frameserver 2.6 released with VP9 support

Satish [Debugmode] wrote on 7/20/2009, 3:33 PM
Debugmode Frameserver is now available with VP9 support (works only with Vegas Pro 32 bit... 64 bit version is not yet ready) and you can download it for free at http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver.

Along with VP9 support, this version has a couple of bug fixes for earlier versions so is a recommended download.

This version also adds an update check feature that checks once in a while if any new version of the frameserver is available (no automatic download, just checks and informs you if an update is available). This will help in distributing the message about future bug fixes and new releases faster. If your editing machine is not connected to the internet this will stay disabled, so no worries.

Thanks to those who helped with beta testing.

This is great! Any plans to add AE (CS3) or greater to the compatible application list? Yes, I know that it isn’t an NLE but it would save tons of render time. Thanks for your commitment to the Vegas ecosystem!
Satish [Debugmode] wrote on 7/21/2009, 1:33 PM
AE does not provide a random-access interface to their export plug-ins for reading from the rendered stream, which is required by the frameserver. Hence it is not supported until now.

I'm baffled by the installation under Vista x64, since Vegas 9 Pro 32 bit does not see the DFS as an output option. Premiere Pro CS3 and VDub work okay, so it's not the frameserver. Mind you, I've never had a problem either installing the previous versions of DFS with Vegas 8 or earlier under Vista x64. Thoughts?

Here's where everything ended up:

c:\windows\syswow64
dfsc.dll
dfscacm.dll

d:\Program Files (x86)\DebugMode\Frameserver\ (Where I told setup to put it)
changelog.txt
dfscVegasV2Out.dll
DFsNetClient.exe
DFsNetServer.exe
fscommon.dll
fsuninst.exe
ImageSequence.dll
readme.txt

D:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins (Where Vegas is)
dfscVegasOut.dll

Note: I tried moving the dfscVegasOut.dll to either the Vegas Video Plug-ins or the Sony Shared Plug-ins folder, but that made no difference.

thanks Satish, not using 9 but if I do its great to know your product ,my road to AE is there.
Thanks!!

DFS has not been tested on 64 bit windows yet so this is still unsupported. However you can try pointing the install path of Vegas plug-in to the directory where 'vegas90.exe' lives (i.e. VP9 install directory) and not the 'file i/o' directory. You should only see one of 'dfscVegasOut.dll' or 'dfscVegasV2Out.dll' in your system - the first is for VP8 and lower, the second is for VP9 and higher.

I figured that it was something like that. Let me move stuff around and see what happens. The previous version worked fine under Vista x64, though. I see you're using NSIS as an the installer. Cineform also had trouble with NSIS and Vista x64. It took them about two months before they got their V4 to install properly for all configurations under Vista x64.

Satish,

I'm having trouble running the frame server (V2.6) in Vegas 9.0a under Windows Vista Home Premium. It runs fine in EditStudio6 and in Vegas it sometimes does work but most of the time it makes Vegas crash. I'm not the only one having problems with it, both in 9.0a and 9.0b.

I would like to use the frame server very much. Do you have any clues? Could it be the Windows version I'm using?

yep , me too. I cant run frameserver at all. it crashes vegas 9b straight away.
vegas 9b 32 on vista 64.
ive resorted to rendering to cineform avi first.

How do I get this to work with TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress ?

I assume the dfscVegasOut.dll should go into
C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\dfscplug

By the way, when answering, please assume I'm a complete noob when it comes to frameserving.

Best Regards

I see you're using NSIS as an the installer. Cineform also had trouble with NSIS

I use Advanced Installer in my professional projects (I am a software developer, video is my hobby). There is lamost nothing to complain about if you use this installer.

WARNING!!!

On a new system I had VPro 9.0b already installed(32bit) and installed Framserver 2.6. On this system it does not work - it does on my old Vegas 9.0b.

Ok .. so I thought I'd ininstall FS 2.6 and reinstall into the Vegas 9.0 install directory as per Satish's advice. BAD MOVE - DO NOT DO THIS.

Still did not work, so I uninstalled it with the view of going back the old way I had it.

The FS uninstaller REMOVED most of Vegas Pro 9.0b!!!

Hopefully I can recover from this.

Tom, I'll tell you how to recover from it if you'll tell me how you got Vegas Pro 9.0c.

Note to jabloomf1230...

On a brand new, totally fresh install of VPro 9.0b (32bit) and FS 2.6, Vegas did not show the DFS option in 'Render As...'.

The cause was that a config file: Frameserver.x86.fio2007-config was NOT created in the Vegas install directory (it points to where DFS is installed). Once I copied it from my working VPro 9.0b on my second system, it worked just fine.

HTH,
Tom

Tom,

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I don't get a copy of that file installed anywhere and it's not even included in the archive, when I open the DFS setup exe file with 7-Zip. Can you attach a copy to a post? I assume it's just some text or XML that tells Vegas where the plug in is located.

Sure .. Here you go ...

The content of the Frameserver.x86.fio2007-config file is:

and it is in the Vegas Pro install directory.

The config file has no extension - just the name as you see above. Just update with wherever you have FS 2.6 installed.
