Subject:SF 5.0 Won't Load Under NT

My new copy of SF 5.0 hangs during load under NT. When
scanning for audio plug-ins, things freeze at "Sonic
Foundry Gapper/Snipper".

However, all the DX plug-ins, including this one, run
correctly under all other apps.

Hi Ken,

Sound Forge 5.0 is not supported under Windows NT. You
will need to use Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, or Windows ME.

I have Windows 2000 installed with SP1 and have the same
problem. Any ideas?

Yes it will, but it will use the other CPU only as
necessary. There is no way to configure how the workload
will be shared between the processors.

Make sure that you have Direct-X 8.0 or later, and that the
plug-in that it is stopping on is installed properly.

Actually, if I CTL-ALT-DEL out of RunDLL, SF5.0 runs fine
under NT. Only the plug-in scan hangs. Odd thing is, all
of the DX plug-ins are registered properly under SF, and
all my other apps. Any way to defeat the automatic scan at
run time?

No, there is no way to keep that from happening.

There may actually be a way... Once you get a successful
scan, SF5 won't scan again until it sees a change in your
registered plugins. That tells me there may be something
you can do with the registry to tell it that it has already
has a successful scan. Of course... you do this at your own
risk. :)
