Subject:Cutlist mode gone?

I use SF7 daily, as it is the last one that works before it started getting dumbed down. I also own SF8 and SF9, which I use exclusively for the batch conversion process. I also installed Audio Studio on an employee's laptop, and have found that the Cutlist capability is not there in the latest release. In our work we write down min:sec locations of errors in long form audio recordings, then go back and, with the Delete key, create a cutlist, then "Save to New Soundfile". WIthout the cutlist, all of our "downstream" times are destroyed, since it takes the chunk out immediately. Suggestions? Thanks! |

If the cutlist is important to you then you will need to use the full version of Sound Forge, not the cheap Audio Studio version which has many of the features of the full version missing, including the cutlist. A comparison of the differences between the full version and the cheap version can be found here. Mark |

Thanks. Seems to me it used to be there in Audio Studio. Hmm... Okay, I'll just keep using SF7. Strange that features that are critical to our workflow have dropped off the map, even in SF-Big... As long as SF7 is compatible with future Operating Systems, I'm good with that. Cheers, Scott |

> Seems to me it used to be there in Audio Studio. Hmm... I'm virtually certain that the Audio Studio version has never had a cutlist. Yes, I've just checked back through the manuals for all versions back to V.5.0 and in each case the section on Playlist/Cutlist is marked as a feature that only exists in the full version, not in the cheap version (which has had many names in the past - XP, Screenblast, Audio Studio). > Strange that features that are critical to our workflow have dropped off the map, even in SF-Big... Which features have "dropped off the map"? I've been using SF since V.4.5 and I can't recall a feature of any importance that has been removed permanently. There have been one or two whose mode of operation has been changed to accomodate additional features, and one or two that were temporarily dropped but reappeared in an update as soon as the best way to re-incorporate them was agreed on, but I'm not aware of any features that have ever been in SF that aren't in the current version. > As long as SF7 is compatible with future Operating Systems, I'm good with that. Well, who can say. SF7 dates from 2003 IIRC and no doubt there are elements of the code that are older than that. Whether they will all continue to work correctly under versions of the OS that weren't even dreamed of when it was written is uncertain. But if SF7 works with Vista then I should think it will continue to work with Windows 7 at least - apparently they are very similar at a fundamental level. Exactly what is it about your workflow that you can't do in the current version? I've had a look through the forum to see if there are any old messages from you about this that might contain the details but I can't see any. If you have a complicated series of processes I'd have thought that the scripting features of the newer versions might make your task simpler, in principle at least. Mark |
