OT: free PPT to video converter

Today's freebie on Giveaway of the Day is Moyea's PPT to Video Converter.
I just tried it on a PPS file (with a lot of useless transitions) and it converted to an AVI that I dropped onto Vegas and played back successfully.
Export file types are:
AVI, MP4, MOV, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, MPG, VOB, FLV, DV. You can also convert a PowerPoint presentation to video for playback on portable devices like: iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Zune Movie (*.wmv or *.mp4), Xbox 360 Video (*.wmv), Pocket PC Movie (*.wmv), Creative Zen Player Video (*.avi), Blackberry Video (*.3gp;*.3g2;*.mp4;*.avi;*.wmv).
As of this moment, it's only available for another 17 1/2 hr. so, if you need something like this, grab it while you can.
Check the site daily as they have some useful programs every so often.

Thanks so much for that. So far the results look excellent and that's saying a lot as I've wasted a lot of time trying to get decent PPT conversion that wasn't woefull.

I'm glad to have it because I get asked to do this a fair bit and have always had to resort to workarounds.
Now I don't and that makes me a very happy person :-)

Ah! Yes . . what you DO need is a copy of PowerPoint point your machine. I can't just convert the PPT file.

But a great freebie anyway!

Grazie, if you're sayig that you don't have PowerPoint on your machine, grab a copy of OpenOffice.
It's open source (i.e. free) and I have yet to find anything from Microsoft that it won't open.

sync, AFAIK, it'll run forever - or until you have to reinstall it due to a hard drive crash :-(
I've got other software I've gotten from this site and not noticed any time limits.

Maybe because it's Vista 64bit?

I have power point 2003 installed and it says it cant find it, I tried to repair the application by pointing it to the powerpnt.exe file and it said it was successful, but when I tried loading a .ppt again it wouldn't let me becuase it cant see the program.

If anyone has nero 9 you can download the latest update and have a .ppt to video converter.

I have tried it and it worked without any problems.

OMG, it works!

Took a powerpoint demo on tessellations with animation and high quality graphics, rendered to DV-AVI and the results are better than anything I've seen, certainly better than screen-capture solutions.

I've only been waiting for this for about 12 years, and today it dropped in my lap. I also added the Giveaway's RSS feed to my toolbar. I bet they're all not this good, but this one certainly got my attention!

Less than 3 hours left to download and install!
Better grab it now, although their promo price of $50 USD is quite reasonable imo.

A WORD of caution . . . You do need to have a copy of MS PowerPoint running on the same PC.

If you were thinking of running this software, 'cos a client sent you a PPT file 'cos you said: "Yes I can!" BUT you DON'T have PP on your machine WITH this convertor - no dice. It does stipulate this in the downloaded support info.

Pity, 'cos I can really imagine many videographers and editors out there, may have MS WORD and but NOT the additional stuff that comes with MS Office. Interesting . . . . .

1] Why don't you try it? I only noticed this when I had installed the software. To be fair, on their site it suggests that you can do this with YOUR PPT presentations. I would think that the "your" implies you have created your own from your own copy of an existing PowerPoint software present on THAT machine.

2] Do you mean the PPT Viewer? What's a "PPT run time utility" is that the viewer?

1) I can't try it. I have PPT loaded on my computer and, although the "viewer" as you put it is also on that computer, by default any PPT file is played in the full program. The viewer only works if the PPT file is accessed by someone who doesn't have PPT installed.

2) Program assists such as the "viewer" are often referred to as "run time utilities." Sorry for the confusion.

They stated the free registration code will not work after the end of the twenty-four hour download offer. It's part of the deal.

You might find if they have a trial version. As I stated, $50 USD seems quite reasonable for what this app does, and I possibly would have purchased it if I had missed the freebie deadline.

This program has never worked for me on Vista 64 so I tried to unistall, with no luck!

Has anyone else tried to uninstall this software?

The uninstall function doesn't work, all I get is "program is not responding" when I try to remove from my computer.

You may have to go to a system restore point before you installed the software. That will take it off and remove the registry entries, etc.
