Subject:Help needed: Sending tracks to analog mixer

I am trying to send 8 tracks from my Sony Acid Pro 7 via Firewire to the NRV10 and mix it on analog mode.

How do I route the 8 tracks from my Acid Pro DAW to the channel strips in NRV10?

What audio options to select? Please help.

My system:
Sonica Music PC XP SP3 w/ Xeon 8 Core CPU
M-Audio: Audiobuddy NRV10 Axiom 66
Mackie HUI; Yamaha N12; Fatar controller
NI Kore 2 Komplete; EWQL Play
Sony Acid Pro 7.0; Sonar 8

Set up 8 busses that are routed directly to your audio hardware outputs that you have connected to your external mixer.

You can then either "send" from your existing routing to the new busses or route the tracks directly to the hardware routed busses.

There are other routing options you can do, but it depends on they type of signal you want to "mix" with your hardware.

Thanks a lot, SonyPCH. Need some more help.

Here is my routing thro' Firewire:

1. From AcidPro Tracks 1 to 8 -> Busses A to H -> NRV10 Outputs 1-8 resply
2. After mixing, to bring back the Mainmix to DAW: I created new audio track 9 with NRV 9/10 Mainmix Mix as input and recorded it on the new track.
3. For Playback, I muted tracks 1-8 and Bus A-H, and played the Master (whose input is also Mainmix).

Now, please note that the new track 9's input in Acid Pro is main mix NRV 9/10, at the same time Acid Pro Master track is ouputted to NRV 9/10. So, is there a feedback problem with this setup? Also, I read that the mainmix ch 9/10 cannot be sent out to the DAW, but no one tells me why?

I have a feeling there is some problem with the routing, if so, how do i rectify it?

It sounds correct to me, but I don't have your audio hardware.

You will know if you have a feedback loop.

I guess I am more interested in why you want to mix externally.
Nothing wrong with it, but then why do you want to bring it back into ACID after you have mixed it?

you could record into a diffrent program like soundforge or wavelabfrom your board

Thanks, SonyPCH. Here are my answers.

Q:It sounds correct to me, but I don't have your audio hardware.

A: This is is my system:

Sonica Music PC XP SP3 w/ Xeon 8 Core CPU
EMU 1212 Soundcard | EMES Monitors
M-Audio: Audiobuddy NRV10 Axiom 66
Mackie HUI; Yamaha N12; Fatar controller
NI Kore 2 Komplete; EWQL Play

Though I normally use EMU 1212, for the Analog mixing I use the NRV 10 audio interfaces.

Q: I guess I am more interested in why you want to mix externally.
A: I want to mix externally, not so much for the sonic benefits as it is to really know and understamd analog board mixing, and see the differences.

Q: Nothing wrong with it, but then why do you want to bring it back into ACID after you have mixed it?

A: I don't know, I thought that was logical, is there a different way to do it?

Thanks ozzborn.

Can I do it with Acid Pro running? Since I changed the audio interface from EMU 1212 to NRV10 in the "Control Panel: Sound devices" to NRV 10, what audio device will I record to in Soundforge/wavelab?

This might sound incorrect, buy I am asking this because I used up all inputs and outputs from NRV10 in Acid Pro.

I would guess that you need to record the mix on on *something* (!), and Acid is there and running, so why not. Your soundcard would need a 'mulit-client' capable driver to record to another application, or use a different interface on the same computer.

A different way to do it would be to avoid mixing externally ! That would avoid the extra complication, extra D-A , mixer channel noise, mixer summing amp noise and distortion, cabling, potential ground-loops, and the extra A-D.

But you have your reason for wanting to do it that way, so that is fine ;-)
