ok, we're recording sermons with sound forge. when we complete the burn and then put the CD into itunes, the artist name reads Shit and Shine. i have looked for how to remove this and I'm not able to see it. Where can I remove/edit the artist info in Sound Forge? Thank you Cliff |

the phrase that was showing up in the artist column was "shit and shine". This does not show on the summary page. |

now we recorded a new file, burnt it and the phrase "publicics and halk rainey" shows in the artist title column. |

are you recording directly from a microphone to sound forge? or are you importing files recorded with another device or program? what format are the files? are you using sound forge to burn your cd's or another program? the possibility of this kind of hack occurring from within sound forge seems -- well, unusual. |

we are recording straight to sound forge from a mic. to chase this rabbit, we recorded just a few seconds of sound from a mic and then burnt it from sound forge. we bring the CD to a PC or Mac, insert the CD, look at the file in iTunes and we are seeing these random names and artist info. the most recent was the name of an advertising firm in san francisco and another one is a media product owned by sprint. |

Contact Sony Customer Service. I still am reluctant to assume that Sound Forge has been hacked, but they might point you to the cause. Another thought, disable Gracenote if it is in your version, but this is strange. |

Act Of God ? ;-) But seriously, it sounds more like an issue with Itunes, a virus on your computer, or somebody playing tricks on you. - What version of Sound Forge ? - Disk-At-Once or Track-At-Once ? - Itunes sourced from where? Maybe iTunes is somehow identifyig you media as being from: http://www.last.fm/music/Shit+and+Shine http://www.demandbase.com/directory/publicis_and_hal_riney-business-contacts ... both figure on iTunes on the net. Possioblly by the same means (track length) that CDDB /Gracenote does it. geoff Message last edited on7/1/2009 4:12:14 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

Possiblly by the same means (track length) that CDDB /Gracenote does it. My reply: Could be. In order to save my original vinyl and be able to play what's on there in a more convenient way I burned a number of discs to cd. Some (not all) discs when I play them in iTunes on my Mac machine I use for web and Photoshop will come up with accurate artist info, track names, track length, etc. and I know that other than iTunes does not display cd text entered by way of CD Architect, but uses Gracenote as I can see the stuff in progress in the title bar. ok, we purchased a new copy, uninstalled the old version, installed the new, registered it and it is STILL labeling our burns with strange names. I am at a loss...the strange artist names in the burns follows the CD. |

Try use Exact Audio copy to copy a burned CD back onto your computer. It uses freedb which is an alternative to Gracenote. This will at least help you isolate where the problem is originating from. |

I replied: Once again, when you play a CD in iTunes on a machine that's hooked up to the web iTunes gets it's track names from the GraceNote database. iTunes ignores the cd text entered in from CD Architect; have never burned from inside Soundforge 9. To get your stuff recognized in iTunes you have to submit your track info to the GraceNotes database - don't know how you do that. Also remember that most, if not all, software cd players will not display cd text - that's a Sony invention. Ditto for hardware cd players - the only ones I've seen that show cd text are Sony machines. Jack |

Again. It is nothing to do with you, your computer, or your software. It is the web-base Gracenote or CDDB service that is matching your discs to existing ones with that exact track timing, and that logged info.. Or maybe somebody is getting in first with a copy of your CDs and making micshief. Changing the track-lengths or order could get around the mis-identification. geoff |
