Subject:Setting levels and CDA in SF5

Hi I'm a religous user of SF, and got the upgrade to SF 5. Like most everyone else, i'm flabbergasted that there's no CDA option in SF5, and totally surprised by the company's attitude towards the intergration of CDA in SF 5.. in other words, you have to keep using the old version of SF, which to me makes no sense. Regardless, a bigger flaw for me is that when mixing straight into SF and going to the record screen, the meters don't show a clip. They go to 0.0 and just stay there. How am i suppose to know when my input level is too loud if the meters won't clip? Has anyone else had this problem? It's so substantial, that i really can't use SF5 for recording. Just thought i'd ask... MC |

I have the same problem. I record to my computer and to DAT as a backup and when there is a clip it registers on the DAT but not in Forge 5.0. It just hits zero. SF? Any ideas? |

Hi Is easy, the metod for optain the over (clip) is diferent between meters. Some very conservative meters need 3 samples in 0dB for mark OVER, other meters need 5 samples for mark OVER. Sonic Foundry need set a control for this in the Sound Forge (Is a pro needed), a user selectable OVER between 1 to 10 samples. Bye |

I've looked in all the options... and i've driven the levels into obvious overload and i still can't get the record level meters to clip. Of course if i record anything at that level, when i play it back it's clipped continually. Very frustrating. Furthermore, i e-mailed tech support over a week ago and haven't heard back. Not good. When recording into SF5.0, I do get the red clip indicators if I start to overload the inputs. But, once recorded and playing back that same distorted audio clip in the workspace area the play level indicators will show those same type of red clip indicators but will go to 0.00 level. You can click on them to reset the indicators to the present level. It just seems to be missing the red clip light indicator as when you are recording. In the meantime, if I see the playback indicator hit "0.00" I know that I'm clipping. Bill |

I meant to say in my previous post that the red clip indicators DO NOT show when playing back files, ONLY when I overload the audio during recording. Bill |

Upon further investigation, I discovered that once I have recorded a file that is clearly distorted, on playback it will intitially show the red clip indicator the first time it is played. But, after it is reset and the same clip plays thru again the red clip indicator no longer responds to the audio clipping. The play meter only shows 0.00 at the top. I can repeat this process time and time again with the same results. Bill |
