Subject:WARNING: No re-install of SF 4.5 after 5.0 Beta On System

I'm currently in configuration hell -- and have been forced to stop down my deadline projects -- because of a slight oversight in the loading of SForge 4.5 and 5.0 on the same computer. Yes, if you have 4.5 you can add 5.0. But, have you ever made just the right changes on your system configuration to force SForge to say you must re-install because the program is not configured correctly? That's what happened to me, and when I dutifully brought out the CDROM for 4.5 again, the install stops on the second page saying something like "install cannot continue. There is a more current version of this program on the system." I've uninstalled 5.0 I've uninstalled 4.5 I've uninstalled XP (which I have kept on my system because the XP time stretch works better than the 4.5 time stretch - - more accurate.) I've uninstalled CDArchitect I've uninstalled the SF MP3 plugin I've deleted every shortcut to any sonic foundry program I've tracked down the raw setup files for 5.0 and deleted them I've deleted every subdirectory in the PROGRAM FILES area except for the XFX plugins area (do they have to go too?) It seems obvious to me that the only place where there are traces of 5.0 are in the registry. Before I start hacking through the registry killing out all instances of SOUND FORGE or SONIC FOUNDRY, I wanted to put this out to other users: BEWARE ... pray you never have to reinstall 4.5. I also wanted to alert the SONIC FOUNDRY folks because it sure would be nice to have a quick little registry update utility that would make the correct adjustments to my registry, instead of sending myself (and many other users) who are as good editing their registry as they are at carving a turkey wearing a blindfold. Any suggestions??? Please forward email to SPINfiniti@aol.com or rmitchell@the-beach.net DJ/PRODUCER RICK MITCHELL |

Hi Sonic Foundry programs create alot of temp files in the Windows temp directory and they remain even after setup. You should go into the windos/temp directory through windows explorer and delete any temp folders that have anything to do with the associated programs, and do a clean boot which you can find out how to do at Microsoft web site depending on which OS you're using and try it from there. Good luck. |

Hi Rick, There are probably registry entries left that are preventing you from reinstalling. Please e-mail support@sonicfoundry.com and we can send you the inf files that will remove all registry entries. Ted |
