AP7 not detecting MCU, emulation only - any ideas? -ACID Product Family

I recently got my hands on an MCU (not the pro), but alas I can't get it to be detected by AP7, I can only get it to run in emulation mode. Have had a look at the MCU for Vegas (& AP6) whitepaper and have set the MIDI properties accordingly, though I did notice the MCU doesn't reserve any MIDI channels (I run Vista). The MCU (v2.1.2) is connected via MIDI to an NI Audio Kontrol 1 interface, which in turn connects via USB to my PC. I can see the MIDI in/out activity at the AK1 interface, looks normal but alas... Seems the MCU with v2.1.2 has three modes, not sure which one AP uses, or how they're toggled. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted... cheers!
