Subject:A real problem caused by the need to have 4.5 and 5.0 installed for CDA

Sound Forge 4.5 apparently has a limit to the number of plugins it can deal with. I own the Waves Native Gold Bundle, many of the Cakewalk plugins, and all of the XFX packs. When I get to a point where I would have more than three menus full of DirectX plugins in SF4.5, NO plugins are shown to be available. SF5 doesn't have this issue. Since I don't tend to use the XFX packs in realtime, I figure I'll just uninstall them to fix this... but this presents a new problem. SF5 doesn't have any non-DirectX versions of these processors, so SF5 is extremely limited when removing the XFX packs. We either need to a) fix 4.5 to allow more DX menus, or b) allow the SF5/CDA relationship so that we can uninstall SF4.5 for good. This is an obvious problem and needs to be corrected in some way. -S |

CD Architect is available in the "Tools" menu, and its availability would not be affected by too many plug-ins being in the "Direct-X" menu. Ted |

Yes, I know this. That is not at all my point. The problem is, I can no longer use DirectX plugins in SF4.5 at all. I'd like to be able to. -S |

No, not censored. We were not able to duplicate this behavior in house. We had seven Direct-X menus full of plug-ins and they never disappeared. My suggestion was to make sure that he has the latest version of Sound Forge 4.5 installed. Version 4.5 will not be updated anymore, and since 5.0 does not exhibit this behavior, I suggested that he continue to use version 5.0 to apply effects. Ted |

Update. I just received a reply from Scott and doing some reinstalling cleared up the disappearing menus problem. Ted |

Thanks Ted for filling us in. I was interested as I just purchased 5.0 and I was looking into perhaps getting CDA. I Do Not have version 4.5, So my question is ...Will CDA work on the same system as 5.0 without problems? Have there been any issues to be aware of? Thanks again Manytone |

I've been using CDA everyday with forge 5.0 on my system. No problems except for when you try to open one program while the other is open (4.5 and 5.0). It will ask you what you want to do with the temp files it's found made by the other program. Be sure to tell it to ignore them. You will have to have 4.5 or 4.5xp on your system to have CDA and where are you going to get CDA from? Do people still sell it? |
